The Gainesville Raceway pressroom had a guest journalist on Saturday night following final qualifying for the 47th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals. Jack Beckman, the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car, crashed Pro Stock No. 1 qualifier Jason Line’s interview with a few questions of his own.

Jack Beckman: You guys clearly have an advantage right now, but you’ve been in this position before. Does that motivate you to work even harder to keep that advantage or at some level do you feel like it’s just going to take them awhile to catch up?
Jason Line: Right now, it’s fear that they’re going to catch up – like tomorrow.
JB: So you guys are motivated to burn the midnight oil?
JL: Yes, absolutely. I had forgotten what that felt like, so I’m enjoying that feeling right now. Fear is a good motivator. I don’t want to have a year like I had last year. That’s not fun for me. And obviously Summit doesn’t want me to stink up the joint. I have to do a better job. Right now, it’s fun. There is a lot of good thinking going on in our shop, and everybody is really excited. I think we’re feeling something we haven’t felt in a long time. It’s very motivating.
