With championship on the line, Team Summit is in top form at NHRA Finals

Team Summit did not come to Las Vegas to play. In fact, they aren’t even interested in what their competitors might have brought to the table. The Summit Racing NHRA Pro Stock team focused on their own game in qualifying for the Dodge NHRA Finals, and in doing so secured the 106th No. 1 qualifier award for four-time Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson and a near-sweep of bonus qualifying points for KB Racing. Anderson’s Summit Racing counterpart, Jason Line, is well within reach of the championship and is prepared to go the distance to close out a 17-year Pro Stock driving career with a fourth Pro Stock world title of his own.

Through two rounds of qualifying, Anderson had the quickest car on the property, netting a total of eight bonus points as the quickest of each round. Line earned three, and KB Racing teammates Kyle Koretsky, Deric Kramer, and Matt Hartford earned five, two, and one, respectively.

Anderson clocked a best time of 6.601-second at 206.73 mph and will race Aaron Strong in the first round of eliminations.

“This is huge,” said Anderson after securing the No. 1 and seeing teammate Line lock into the No. 2 spot across the ladder. “We love coming to Vegas, we love coming to Ken Black’s home track. It’s always been special to us, and we’ve created a lot of great magic here. We set the table today with our Summit Racing Chevys, and tomorrow is going to be a knock-down, drag-out brawl. I can’t wait. It’s going to be great drama. We’ve got two great hot rods, and that’s all we can ask for.”

Line, competing in the final race of his Pro Stock career, is now within 47 points of the 2020 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Championship. On Sunday, each round will be valued at 30 points per round. The winner of the event will earn 150 points.

Line’s best time was 6.635, 206.39. He will square off with Cristian Cuadra in round one.

“Anything can happen on raceday, it’s a crazy thing. If we raced on paper, the results would be way different,” said Line. “Who knows, I certainly don’t wish anybody bad luck, that’s for sure. But I’d love to bring the trophy home for Ken and Judy Black and Summit Racing. No matter what happens tomorrow, this is going to be my last ride in a Pro Stock car. I have no regrets, no complaints. I’ve gotten to do more, see more, and be with some really good people. It’s been a good ride.”

Eliminations for the 2020 Dodge NHRA Finals will begin at 10am on Sunday, November 1, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“Of course, I want to win rounds and win the race for all the people who have helped me in my Pro Stock career, but Jason has a shot to win the world. For him, but really for Ken and Judy that would be awesome. Ken Black is the reason why I’m here. He gave me an opportunity, and I’ll never forget it. I hope I get to tell him tomorrow that even though I’m leaving Pro Stock, I’ll still come out. They’ve been like family. We’ve got some great memories from all of this that you can’t pay for. We have a car that can win, and I’m excited for tomorrow.”
