In a very fitting tribute to Atlanta Dragway in its waning hour, the Southeast Nostalgia Pro Stock Association – along with special guests from the Southeast Gassers Association – made exhibition passes in front of a gigantic crowd at the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals.
The weekend of April 30 – May 2, 2021 marked the 40th running of the iconic race and the final NHRA national event to be held at the historic facility. Here are a few photos from the weekend that’ll send you back in time to the racetrack’s glory days of horsepower and speed.

Rocky Platt lays down some rubber in the Houston Platt Dixie Twister ’65 Chevy Nova. Allen Platt was also on-site in the Georgia Shaker ’64 Comet tribute car. From Gena Ellis: “Allen and Rocky, the sons of Early Pro Stock Legends Hubert and Houston Platt, have recreated their dads 1965 Gassers, the Georgia Shaker and the Dixie Twister. The Platt brothers were from Georgia so it was fitting that their sons honor them at the last Southern Nationals!”
Ed Eichelberger honored Pro Stock pioneer Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins in the “Grumpy’s Toy” ’68 Camaro at the event. Look at that rear-tire scrunch.
