West Coast racer Tony DeFrank is on the property at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports park in the California Car Cover Chevrolet Camaro FS/B Stocker most recently piloted by 50-time national event winner Jeff Taylor. DeFrank didn’t want to miss the 38th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals because Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park is a part of his own history.
“This is where I got my first national event win in 1998,” said DeFrank, who has gone on to win five more Wallys since then. “We wanted to come back here for old time’s sake, and if this is the last race at this track, at least I can say I was here. I’m going to try not to embarrass myself.”
DeFrank has been the Executive Director of his family’s business, California Car Cover Co., since 2004, and although he used to spend a lot more time behind the wheel of the DeFrank and Sons racecars, in recent times he’s leaned more into the business and spending time with wife Meghan and their young children.
“I still enjoy this, but not quite like I used to,” he said. “Now I’m more focused on work and family, but it’s nice to spend some time with Jimmy [brother and fellow Stock and Super Stock racer] and the folks. I always have enjoyed running Phoenix, so it was important to me to be here.”
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series time trials are currently in progress at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park at the 38th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals. Final eliminations will begin at 11:00 a.m. MST on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
