Each month, Auto Imagery Vice President and photographer Alex Owens sorts through thousands of images and hand selects 10 great photos from recent events. In the month of February, Alex and the Auto Imagery team traveled south to sunny Bradenton, Fla., for the SCAG Power Equipment Superstar Shootout. The event brought in a ton of fans who were treated to a test session gone wild as Pro and Sportsman racers took to the track ahead of the 2025 Mission Foods Drag Racing Series launch to compete for trophies, dollars, and bragging rights.

A NAPA Toyota GR Supra crew member stays focused in the pits. After winning the SCAG Power Equipment Pro Superstar Shootout, three-time Funny Car world champion Ron Capps thanked his diligent crew. “Our NAPA guys and Guido [crew chief Dean ‘Guido’ Antonelli] — I cannot say enough about how hard he’s worked. This is the fruit of our team’s labor,” said Capps.Multi-time NHRA North Central champion John Coughlin launches his SS/BS ’04 Cavalier. Five-time winner Coughlin’s son, Cody Coughlin, was in attendance at the event getting comfortable with his new team, KB Titan Racing. The younger Coughlin will race the full season of Pro Stock with the 10-time championship winning group.Doug Engels goes wheels way up in his SS/GA ’67 Chevy II, showing off the classic Jenkins Competition front plate as he powered his way to the quarterfinals.Pro Stock championship contender Aaron Stanfield’s wife, Joleigh, flashes the peace sign at the PRO Superstar Shootout. Stanfield’s father, former Pro Stock championship contender Greg Stanfield, is back in a naturally aspirated factory hot rod for the first time since 2014. The two ran one another for the first time in round two at Bradenton — dad got the nod over son on a holeshot.Multi-time drag boat champion Shawn Reed raced to the Top Fuel victory at Bradenton Motorsports Park, capturing his first trophy on asphalt with crew chief Rob Wendland and assistant crew chief Ryan Elliott on the job.Third-generation drag racer Jack Line made his Stock Eliminator debut at the event. Line, son of 1993 Stock champion and three-time Pro Stock world champion Jason Line, notched the first round win of what will likely be a long and prosperous career before falling to eventual race winner Monty Bogan.Funny Car’s 2018 world champion, J.R. Todd, and his Kalitta Motorsports entry put forth an emotional and fitting tribute to Scott Kalitta, with header flames rising high against the dark of night. Todd’s Toyota GR Supra will be managed by championship tuner Dickie Venables in 2025.Blasting into a new season, Matt Hagan and his TSR Nitro Dodge are eager for redemption after a fourth-place finish in 2024. Hagan, with Mike Knudsen and Phil Shuler at the helm, will be seeking a fifth Funny Car world title.Andrew Johnson claimed victory over Tommy D’Aprile in the Top Sportsman presented by FTI Performance Converters category driving Excalibur, a cool-as-heck ’55 Chevy that has roared with threat in both quarter-mile and eighth-mile racing.Jason Line debuted the Bucky Hess-owned “Fish Stick” ’68 Cuda at Indy last year, and the gorgeous HEMI-powered entry (a Travis “Tuki” Hess masterpiece) made a large statement as it reached the semifinals at the SCAG PRO Superstar Shootout.
